Range: Western Atlantic Ocean: Florida, Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Natural Environment: Inhabits reef flats and encrusts hard substrates.

Aquarium Suitability: Not collected for the home aquarium trade.

Best left in the wild.

FYI: Feeds by drawing water in and through its pores and filtering out bacteria and organic particles, then expelling the filtered water out through the osculi.

These sponges are fed upon by local angelfish, cowfish, spadefish, and the hawksbill sea turtle.

Can reach 20 inches (50 cm) in height.
