Range: Western Atlantic Ocean: Florida and Bermuda to Venezuela.

Size: 7 inches (17 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabits small crevices in Elkhorn coral growths on inshore reefs and in tidepools during daylight hours and can be found at depths between 3 - 65 feet (1 - 20 m). during daylight hours. Feeds at night mainly on crabs and shrimp.

General Husbandry: Has a reddish overall body with alternating horizontal lines of white and dark red, yet sometimes appears silvery, which depends mainly on lighting. Even though quite common in the wild, not purposely collected for the trade, as its an extremely secretive species that would be near impossible to feed in captivity.
