'Y' Branch Algae

Those in the Order Dictyotales, the "Y" branching brown algae (even though some look quite green), contain the majority of brown algae that is suitable for aquaria. Most are unappetizing to herbivorous fishes, as they contain iodine, but if they are to be maintained in aquariums, iodine additives are necessary.
