Sand Perches

These fishes belong in the "Order Perciformes" and "Suborder Trachinoidei" as members of the "Family Pinguipedidae" (Sand Perches) consisting of 4 genera, and 50 species.

Few interest hobbyists, as they are generally bottom dwellers and aggressive towards smaller fishes, tubeworms, and ornamental shrimp. They require an open sandbed and a covered aquarium as they are excellent jumpers if frightened.
