Livebearing Brotula

These fishes belong in the "Order Ophidiiformes" and "Suborder Bythitoidei" as members of the "Family Bythitidae" (Livebearing Brotulas) consisting of 2 Subfamilies, 31 genera, and 90+ species.

Highly secretive, these mostly nocturnal small fishes eat anything they can fit into their mouths. They propel themselves by undulating their dorsal and anal fins. There are two subfamilies where specimens are infrequently seen in the trade.
