Common names include Moon Coral, Pineapple Coral, Brain Coral, Star Coral and Closed Brain Coral because they resemble Favia. They are also half-sphere shaped photosynthetic stony coral having a covering of cup-like or honeycomb shaped polyps. The polyps remain closed during the day. At night, tentacles appear and can be fed baby brine shrimp and sweeper tentacles can damage other coral within reach. In the wild, they are found in a wide range of environments. Colors are usually brown or green.
