Species Name: Sepia pharaonis Ehrenberg, 1831


Range: Red Sea and Indo-Pacific


Size: Up to 18 inches (45 cm)


Natural Environment: Found throughout various environments, from inshore reef areas to open sea


General Husbandry: Prefer a temperature range of 59 - 77°F (15 - 25°C). Consume large amounts of meaty foods and should be housed in large aquariums with a highly oxygenated water supply. Those interested in obtaining captive breed cuttlefish can contact the National Resource Center for Cephalopods. Note, S. officinalis species is one of the most common and easiest to maintain. Both are shown here.
