Common Name: Starfish Shrimp

Species Name: Periclimenes soror Nobili, 1904


Range: Tropical Indo-Pacific from the Red Sea and East Africa to Hawaii and Gulf of California


Natural Environment: Inhabits various coral reef environments, mainly living on or near starfish, especially Linckia, Mithrodia, Acanthaster, Choriaster, and Culcita


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 73 to 83°F (23 - 28°C) and is quite small, only about 0.5 inch (1.3 cm). Depends upon the cleaning process for its food. Rarely seen in the trade and may arrive as a hitchhiker. Easily eaten by larger fishes. Color depends upon the color of the host. Commonly found on Culcita.
