Common Name: Black Leopard Wrasse

Species Name: Macropharyngodon kuiteri Randall, 1978

Range: Western Pacific Ocean: New Caledonia to southern Great Barrier Reef and New South Wales

Size: Up to 4 in (10 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabit mixed bottoms of rock, coral, weeds, and sand

General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 74 - 83°F (23 - 28°C) and has a natural diet of benthic invertebrate. Requires a meaty diet consisting of finely chopped clam, mussel, fish, and shrimp flesh, small snails, mysis, and enriched brine shrimp with two to three feedings per day. Should only be kept in aquaria with a deep sandbed as they bury themselves at night, and when so, may often disturb bottom dwelling corals such as brain corals. Provide a fine-grained substrate of at least 3 inches (7.5 cm) in depth. Rarely seen in the trade and difficult to maintain long-term.
