Range: Indo-Pacific Ocean: Red Sea to Durban South Africa, Society Islands, southern Japan, Great Barrier Reef, New Caledonia
Size: Up to 18 in (45 cm)
Natural Environment: Inhabit deep reef outcrops and quite frequently visit sandy areas in search of food
General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 81°F (22 - 27°C) and has a natural diet of zooplankton, small fishes, and benthic invertebrate. Requires a meaty diet, including fortified brine shrimp, mysis, chopped fish or shrimp flesh, and meaty type frozen carnivore foods with two or three feedings per day. Has a habit of blowing away sand to expose benthic invertebrate. Extremely aggressive and very possibly should only be housed with own family members. May blow jests of water into the sand in search of prey, and will probably rearrange aquarium décor. Should not be maintained in anything less than 150 gallon aquarium.
