Range: Western Atlantic Ocean: South Carolina, Bermuda, Gulf of Mexico to Brazil


Size: Up to 17 in (43 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit rocky and coral reefs


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 80°F (22 - 27°C) and has a natural diet of benthic invertebrate and small fishes. Need a meaty diet, i.e., chopped fresh fish or shrimp flesh, scallops, and squid, and requires two or three feedings per day, and generally feeds at night. Provide hiding places and best housed in small groups. A great fish for the large fish-only aquarium, however, select its tankmates carefully. Rarely seen in the trade.
