Common Name: Yellowtail / Purple Tang

Species Name: Zebrasoma xanthurum (Blyth, 1852)

Range: Endemic to the Red Sea

Size: Up to 10 in (25 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabit coral rich areas on outer reefs

General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 75 - 83°F (24 - 28°C) and its natural diet consists mainly of filamentous algae. Requires a varied vegetable diet, including fresh macroalgae, Spirulina, dried seaweed, and enriched vegetable flakes, with two or three feedings per day. Hardier than other members of this genus, and less susceptible to Marine Ich. Best if purchased in the four-inch (10 cm) size, and made the last fish in the aquarium, as it will sooner or later rule all smaller species in the tank. Yet, still a fairly peaceful fish. Another non-cyanide collected species.
