Species Name: Naso lituratus (Foster, 1801)


Range: Indo-Pacific Ocean: Red Sea to Japan, New Caledonia, Hawaii, the Marquesas, and Tuamotu Islands, Great Barrier Reef, Clipperton Island


Size: Up to 16 in (40 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit deep rubble areas and low surge areas


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 83°F (24 - 28°C) and its natural diet consists mainly of brown kelp. Requires a varied vegetable diet, including fresh macroalgae, Spirulina, dried seaweed, and enriched vegetable flakes, and requires two or three feedings per day. Those collected in the Indian Ocean have an orange dorsal and are called the Blond Naso. They have a reputation for eating bubble algae (Valonia). Males have streamers and the females don't.
