Species Name: Urobatis jamaicensis (Cuvier, 1817)
Range: Western Atlantic Ocean: North Carolina and the Gulf of Mexico and throughout the Caribbean to Trinidad
Size: Up to 14 in (35 cm) wide and 26 in (67 cm) long
Natural Environment: Inhabit lagoons and sandy and muddy tidal flats
General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and has a natural diet of worms, shrimps, hermit crabs and small fishes. Requires a meaty diet, preferably live grass shrimp, worms and/or crabs. May fast for weeks before eating. Needs fine sand to bury itself in. Should receive at least several feedings per week.
