Common Name: Bluespotted Stingray / Masked Stingray

Species Name: Dasyatis kuhlii (Muller & Henle, 1841)


Range: Indo-West Pacific Ocean: Red Sea, South Africa, India, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Japan, and Australia


Size: Up to 20 in (50 cm) wide and 26 in (67 cm) long


Natural Environment: Inhabit sand flats and slopes adjacent to coral reeds


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and has a natural diet of worms, shrimps, crabs and small fishes. Requires a meaty diet, preferably live grass/glass shrimp, worms and/or crabs. May fast for weeks before eating. Needs fine sand to bury itself in. Should receive at least several feedings per week. Not quite as good looking as T. lymma, but much hardier and easier to maintain
