Range: Indo-West Pacific Ocean: Reunion and Maldives, eastward through Indonesia and New Guinea to the Coral Sea, and north to Japan

Size: Up to 32 inches (80 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabit shallow coastal bays and estuaries

General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and feeds upon snails, tube worms, crabs, sponges, starfish, clams, shrimp, urchins, tunicates, coral polyps, algae, including coralline algae and small fishes. Requires an enriched meaty diet with some vegetable matter, e.g., brine shrimp, earthworms, krill, tubifex, worms, chunky fish and shrimp flesh, and should also have some fresh greens to graze upon. They may graze upon coralline algae and can become fin-nippers. Require numerous daily feedings (at least three per day) and plenty of swimming space. Provide a large cave to hide in when needed.
