Species Name: Scarus ghobban Forsskål, 1775


Range: Indo-Pacific Ocean: Red Sea to south to Algoa Bay South Africa, and east to Micronesia, north to southern Japan, and south to south to Perth, New South Wales, and Lord Howe and Rapa Islands, and also eastern Pacific Ocean in the Gulf of California to Ecuador


Size: Up to 36 inches (90 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit lagoons and outer exposed reef areas rich in coral growth


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and feeds upon algae covered rock and coral branches/mounds. Requires numerous feedings per day with a varied diet containing some meaty foodstuffs and a lot of vegetable matter. Safe to keep with soft corals, but not stony corals. Rarely seen in the trade.
