Species Name: Pempheris schomburgkii Müller & Troschel, 1848
Range: Western Atlantic Ocean: Southern Florida and Bahamas, south to Brazil
Size: Up to 6 in (15 cm)
Natural Environment: Inhabit caves and areas under branching corals during day and may form large groups during evening hours and feed upon zooplankton
General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 74 - 82°F (23 - 28°C). Feeds on zooplankton in the wild and in closed systems, newly arriving fish should receive a diet of live foods, e.g., fortified brine shrimp, until it possible to switch them to meaty frozen foods. They should be maintained in large systems with plenty of swimming room and hiding places, and kept in a dimly lit environment with no aggressive tankmates. Susceptible to skin parasites, and do not transport well. Rarely seen in the aquarium trade.
