Species Name: Hypoplectrus aberrans Poey, 1868


Range: Western Central Atlantic Ocean: Two color morphs - one from the Greater Antilles/Panama and a second morph from the Virgin Islands


Size: Up to 5 inches (12 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit reef faces from 10 to 50 feet (3 - 15 m)


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 70 - 80°F (21 - 27°C) and natural diet consists mostly of shrimp, and some smaller fishes. Requires a meaty diet, i.e., chopped fish and/or shrimp flesh, with at least one feeding per day. It will, however, attempt to eat small ornamental shrimp, therefore it may not be desirable in some reef aquariums. Rarely seen in the trade.
