Common Name: Sixline Grouper / Soapfish
Species Name: Grammistes sexlineatus (Thünberg, 1792)
Range: Widespread in the Indo-Pacific Ocean
Size: Up to 10 inches (25 cm)
Natural Environment: Inhabit coastal reefs, tidepools, lagoons, muddy slopes and bays from depths of 3 to over 150 feet (1 - 50 m)
General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and natural diet consists mainly of small fishes and benthic invertebrate. Requires a meaty diet, i.e., enriched chopped fish or shrimp flesh, and two feedings per week. As with all soapfish, if stressed, it may release a toxic substance (grammistin) from the skin that could kill itself and all tankmates. Prevent any stressful conditions in the tank! Is basically none-aggressive except to smaller fishes, which it will eat. Hardy, yet when stressed it may emit a toxic slime that is said to kill its tankmates, however, I've kept them for long periods without any problems
