Range: Western Pacific Ocean: southern Japan to southern Queensland and east to Fiji

Size: Up to 40 inches (100 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabit coral heads in lagoons or bays

General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and their natural diet consists mainly of small sand-dwelling fishes and crustaceans. Requires a meaty diet, i.e., chopped fish or shrimp flesh, and two feedings per week. Needs a large tank with hiding places and enhanced filtration as these fish are ambush predators and produce a large amount of waste products. Rarely seen in the trade, and a major food fish in Hong Kong.
