Species Name: Cephalopholis argus Bloch & Schneider, 1801
Range: Indo-Pacific Ocean: Red Sea to South Africa and eastward to French Polynesia and the Pitcairn Group, north to Ryukyu and Ogasawara Islands, south to northern Australia and Lord Howe Island
Size: Up to 20 inches (50 cm)
Natural Environment: Inhabit shallow lagoons and coral habitats
General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and their natural diet consists mainly of small fishes and some small crustaceans. Requires a meaty diet, i.e., chopped fish and/or shrimp flesh, and two feedings per week. Prefers to be fed in late afternoons or early morning hours. Too large for most hobbyist systems. Rarely seen in the trade.
