Common Name: Arrowhead Soapfish

Species Name: Belonoperca chabanaudi Fowler & Bean, 1930


Range: Indo-Pacific Ocean: East Africa to Samoa, north to Ryukyu Islands and south to New Caledonia


Size: Up to 6 inches (15 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit reef faces and fore-reef slopes and is found under ledges and in caves


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 81°F (22 - 27°C) and their natural diet consists of small fishes and crustaceans. Requires a meaty diet, i.e., enriched chopped fish or shrimp flesh, and three feedings per week. As with all soapfish, if stressed, it may release a toxic substance (grammistin) from the skin that could kill itself and all tankmates. Prevent any stressful conditions in the tank! Not aggressive, except to something that can be swallowed. Rarely seen in the trade.
