Range: Indo-West Pacific Ocean: Maldives and Mauritius to Indonesia, Singapore, Philippines, New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands

Size: Up to 4 inches (10 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabit shallow fringing reefs and gentle sloped areas containing small and large polyp corals, and usually found from 3 - 50 foot depths (1 - 15 m)

General Husbandry: Has a temperature of 72 - 80°F (22 - 27°C). One of the more colorful frogfish and capable of changing its colors. Will sometimes assume the color of the object it is near to enhance its camouflage. Requires a meaty diet of live shrimp, small fishes, or an enriched diet of defrosted marine flesh. Since these are sedentary fishes, their metabolism is quite low. Therefore, infrequent feedings of once or twice a week for adults and three or four times a week for juveniles is highly recommended. Small live fish/shrimp, preferably marine species, or frozen foodstuffs suspended/impaled on a long stick will suffice. This species is better maintained in a small aquarium without eatable tankmates. Often seen out in the open, especially when small, apparently mimicking toxic nudibranchs. Most are white with orange or red mottling, but many colors exist. Have prominent illicia (fishing poles) that resemble small fishes. Rarely seen in the trade.
