Common Name: Fan-tailed Filefish
Species Name: Pervagor spilosoma (Lay & Bennett, 1839)
Range: Indo-Pacific Ocean: East Indies to the Hawaiian Islands
Size: Up to 6 inches (15 cm)
Natural Environment: Inhabit shallow protected reefs from a depth of 3 to 75 feet (3 - 25 m)
General Husbandry: Temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C). Feeds on benthic invertebrate and algae. Requires an enriched meaty diet along with some vegetable matter and numerous feedings per day. They are slow movers, do not do well in aquariums with swift water movement, and have extremely abrasive skin. They are sometimes called "leatherjackets" because of their skin texture. One of the best filefishes and does not bother other fish species. One per tank unless a mated pair.
