Species Name: Echidna nebulosa (Ahl, 1789)


Range: Indo-Pacific Ocean: Red Sea and East Africa to the Society Islands to southern Japan and the Hawaiian Islands, south to Lord Howe Island


Size: Up to 30 inches (75 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit intertidal reef areas and shallow lagoons


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and will accept a wide range of meaty foods. Feed once or twice a week using a feeding stick. Requires numerous hiding places, yet not too shy once established. It is thought they may be sexed by the shape of their teeth, with the male having sharper and serrated teeth and the female having more conical shape.
