Common Name: Chinese Zebra Dartfish
Species Name: Ptereleotris zebra (Fowler, 1938)
Range: Indo-Pacific Ocean: Red Sea, Ryukyu Islands, and the Great Barrier Reef
Size: Up to 4 inches (10 cm)
Natural Environment: A schooling species found over coral gravel areas containing caves at depths over 90 feet (30 m)
General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C). Natural diet consists mainly of zooplankton. Requires a meaty diet, i.e., enriched brine shrimp, mysis, finely chopped fish or shrimp flesh, with one or two feedings per day. An open water swimmer and needs lots of open swimming space, yet shy, and needs places close by to hide in if frightened. Could well be more of these fishes are lost by jumping out of the tank than for all other reasons combined!
