Common Name: Whitespotted Devil / Jewel Damselfish

Species Name: Plectroglyphidodon lacrymatus (Quoy & Gaimard, 1824)


Range: Indo-Pacific Ocean: East Africa and the Red Sea to the Marshall Islands, and Australia northward to the Ryukyu Islands


Size: Up to 4 inches (10 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit lagoons and outer reefs at depths between 6 - 30 feet (2 - 10 m)


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and feeds upon benthic invertebrates and algae. Requires a meaty diet with some algae with two or three feedings per day. One per tank unless a mated pair. Generally very territorial and aggressive, and it is recommended they not be added to community aquariums until after all the more peaceful fishes have been placed into the system.
