Common Name: Chinese Damselfish / Coral Demoiselle

Species Name: Neopomacentrus bankieri (Richardson 1846)


Range: Western Pacific Ocean & South China Sea: Hong Kong, and Java; also Queensland, Australia, and New Guinea


Size: Up to 3 inches (7 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabits protected bays and lagoons at depths between 6 to 30 feet (2 - 10 m)


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C). Natural diet consists mostly of zooplankton and algae. Requires a meaty diet with some algae with two or three feedings per day. Not often seen in the trade that I know of, yet has been bred in captivity. Shown here for identification purpose only. Please note the yellow spot at the origin of the lateral line in this Hong Kong and South China Sea species. This differentiates it from the similar N. azysron and N. cyanomos (per com w/Vincent Hargreaves).
