Species Name: Dascyllus aruanus (Linnaeus, 1758)


Range: Indo-West Pacific Ocean: Red Sea and East Africa to the central and western Pacific as far north to southern Japan and south to Sydney, Australia; and the Line, Marquesas and Tuamotu Islands


Size: Up to 3 inches (7.5 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabits lagoons with branching coral at depths between 3 to 30 feet (1 - 10 m)


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and its natural diet consists of benthic invertebrates and algae. Requires a meaty diet with some algae with two or three feedings per day. Cute when small, but devils when they mature. Should only be kept with larger and more aggressive fishes. Will not harm invertebrate, and will eat some algae.
