Common Name: Fourline / Doederlein's Cardinalfish

Species Name: Apogon doederleini Jordan & Snyder, 1901


Range: Western Pacific Ocean: Southern Japan to Taiwan, and New Caledonia and Kermadec Islands


Size: Up to 5 inches (12.5 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit rocky and coral rich reefs and found in caves and crevices


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 65 - 77°F (18 - 25°C) and natural diet consists mainly of zooplankton. This is a subtropical species, yet easily maintained in slightly cooler aquaria, yet rarely collected. Will accept a wide variety of meaty foodstuffs and should have vitamin enriched foods with at least two feeding per day. Their diet should contain a color enhancer, such as Spirulina. Prefers a dimly lit environment with caves. Can be maintained in small groups. May be a threat to small shrimp.
