Species Name: Apogon cavitiensis (Jordan & Seale, 1907)


Range: Western Central Pacific Ocean: Philippines, Malaysia, and south to northern Australia


Size: Up to 2.5 inches (6.5 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit shallow mangrove areas


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and natural diet consists mainly of zooplankton. A hardy fish and easily maintained in aquaria. Will accept a wide variety of meaty foodstuffs and should have vitamin enriched foods with at least two feeding per day. Their diet should contain a color enhancer, such as Spirulina. Prefers a dimly lit environment with caves. Can be maintained in small groups. May be a threat to small shrimp. Rarely seen in the trade.
