Common Name: Long-nosed Butterflyfish

Species Name: Forcipiger flavissimus Jordan & McGregor, 1898


Range: Indo-Pacific Ocean: Red Sea to Africa and to California, and has also been recorded on the Great Barrier Reef


Size: Up to 6 inches (15 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabits areas rich in coral growth and occurs at a depth of 15 to over 80 feet (5 - 25 m)


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 77 - 82°F (25 - 28°C) and natural diet consists mainly of coral polyps, worms, clams, tunicates, and crustaceans. Easily maintained in the aquarium and will accept a wide variety of foodstuffs. If there's such a thing as the top best ten butterflies to keep, this is one of them.
