Species Name: Chaetodon xanthurus Bleeker, 1857
Range: Western Pacific Ocean: East Indies, the Philippines and Okinawa
Size: up to 5.5 inches (14 cm)
Natural Environment: Inhabit shallow reef areas rich in coral growth at a depth of 50 to 100 feet (15 - 30 m)
General Husbandry: Prefer a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and natural diet consists mainly of coral polyps, worms, clams, algae, tunicates, and crustaceans. Easily maintained in the aquarium and will accept a wide variety of foodstuffs. Requires numerous feedings per day. Will share space with other butterflyfishes, however, all members of this species should be introduced at the same time. May be safe with most soft corals. If there's such a thing as the top best ten butterflies to keep, this is one of them.
