Species Name: Chaetodon vagabundis Linnaeus, 1758


Range: Indo-Pacific Ocean: East Africa to Line and Tuamotus, north to southern Japan, south to Lord Howe and Austral Islands


Size: up to 9 inches (23 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit shallow inland coastal reef areas rich in coral growth at a depth of 3 to 100 feet (1 - 30 m)


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and natural diet consists mainly of coral polyps and algae. Easily maintained in the fish-only aquarium, however, will devastate corals and anemones. Requires a variety of enriched meaty and green frozen foods with numerous feedings per day. Will feed on filamentous algae. Provide sufficient rock/cave areas and coral rubble areas. Can be kept in pairs and with other butterflyfishes.
