Common Name: Pacific Double-Saddle Butterflyfish

Species Name: Chaetodon ulietensis Cuvier, 1831


Range: Widespread throughout the Western Pacific, however, usually imported from Philippines and Indonesia


Size: up to 7 inches (18 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit shallow lagoons, reef flats, and fore-reef slopes at a depth of 3 to 100 feet (1 - 30 m)


General Husbandry: Prefer a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and natural diet consists mainly of zoanthids, anemones, worms, clams, tunicates, hydroids, and crustaceans. Easily maintained and quite hardy in closed systems. May look similar to C. falcula, however, this species has a broad yellow area across the dorsal and the first broad black bar does not extend much below the eye and extends almost to the pectoral fins. Requires an enriched varied diet with numerous feedings per day. Can be maintained with other members of its species and/or family.
