Common Name: Three-Stripe Butterflyfish

Species Name: Chaetodon tricinctus Waite, 1901


Range: Southwestern Pacific Ocean: East Coast of Australia: Lowe Howe and Norfolk Islands


Size: up to 6 inches (15 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabits lagoons rich in coral growth at a depth of 10 to 100 feet (3 - 30 m)


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 68 - 76°F (20 - 24°C) and even though little is known about this species, its diet is probably the same as most butterflyfish, i.e., natural diet consists mainly of coral polyps and benthic invertebrates. More husbandry information is needed on this species and if you know of such, please contact me. Rarely seen in the trade and shown here for identification purpose only.
