Common Name: Triangular Butterflyfish

Species Name: Chaetodon triangulum Cuvier, 1831


Range: Indian Ocean: Madagascar to the Andaman Sea and western Indonesian Archipelago


Size: up to 6 inches (15 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabits lagoon and seaward reefs at a depth of 3 to 50 feet (1 - 15 m) and closely associated with Acropora coral, especially Staghorn, and usually found in pairs


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and natural diet consists mainly of live corals. Only those willing to provide live coral polyps should attempt maintaining this species in captivity. This is an extremely difficult species to maintain and probably best left in the wild!
