Common Name: Lined Butterflyfish

Species Name: Chaetodon lineolatus Cuvier, 1831


Range: Western Pacific Ocean: New Guinea, and east coast of Australia


Size: up to 12 inches (30 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit inner reef areas rich in coral growth in depths between 10 - 500 feet (3 - 165 m)


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and natural diet consists of live corals, worms, algae, and hydroids, and possibly anemones. Fairly easy to acclimate in the aquarium and will accept a wide variety of foods, with numerous feedings per day. A large butterflyfish and requires an aquarium 125 gallons or larger. One per tank. Not only can it not be trusted with stony corals, it's not safe with soft corals.
