Common Name: Somali Butterflyfish

Species Name: Chaetodon leucopleura Playfair, 1867


Range: Indian Ocean: Red Sea, along Yemen and Oman, and the Horn of Africa


Size: up to 7 inches (17 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabits deeper coral reefs from 25 to 200 feet (8 - 65 m)


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 70 - 77°F (21 - 25°C) and even though little is known about this species, its diet is probably the same as most butterflyfish, i.e., natural diet consists mainly of coral polyps and benthic invertebrates.
