Common Name: Saddled Butterflyfish

Species Name: Chaetodon ephippium Cuvier, 1831


Range: Widespread in the Indo-Pacific.


Size: up to 9 inches (23 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit shallow reef areas with rich coral growths at depths between 3 - 80 feet (1 - 25 m)


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 72 - 82°F (22 - 28°C) and natural diet consists of live coral polyps, worms, algae, and crustaceans. Requires a variety of enriched frozen foods (meaty and algae) which can be supplemented with flake foods with numerous feedings per day. May feed on filamentous algae and on bottom invertebrates. One per tank. If there's such a thing as the top best ten butterflies to keep, this is one of them.
