Common Name: Triangular Butterflyfish

Species Name: Chaetodon baronessa Cuvier, 1831

Range: Indo-Pacific Ocean: Philippines, Indonesia, New Guinea to the Great Barrier Reef

Size: up to 5 inches (12 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabit shallow areas over rich coral growths in depths between 10 to 50 feet (3 - 15 m)

General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 74 - 82°F (23 - 28°C) and natural diet consists "exclusively" of live coral polyps. Requires a variety of frozen foods (meaty and algae) and can be supplemented with flake foods with numerous feedings per day. Not to be trusted with live corals, however, some report once established it does little damage to live corals. (V. Hargreaves, 2002). Does not transport well, nor can withstand high levels of nitrate. This is an extremely difficult species to maintain and only the most experienced aquarists should attempt keeping them.
