Range: Atlantic Ocean: Massachusetts to southeastern Brazil, Gulf of Mexico, possibly from the tip of South Africa

Size: up to 18 inches (45 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabit shallow water areas over grass flats

General Husbandry: Prefer a temperature range of 72 - 79°F (22 - 26°C). Feeds upon benthic creatures, e.g., sea squirts, sponges, crustaceans, anemones, crabs, and some marine plants. Requires a varied diet, which contains both meaty and vegetable matter. A slow moving fish, therefore, it should not be housed with fast moving and/or fin-nipping fishes.
