Species Name: Platax batavianus Cuvier, 1831


Range: Indo-West Pacific Ocean: Madagascar to Indonesia, and Australia


Size: up to 20 inches (50 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit continental shelf reef areas


General Husbandry: Have a temperature range of 72 - 80° F (22 - 27°C) and natural diet consists of plankton, algae, small fishes, jelly fish, worms, and other small invertebrate. Feed a meaty diet, e.g., enriched brine shrimp, mysis, chopped fish and shrimp flesh, two or three times daily. Slow moving with large fin areas, therefore do not include with fin nippers. Fond of earthworms.
