Common Name: Brazilian Gramma

Species Name: Gramma brasiliensis Sazima, Gasparini & Mourra, 1998


Range: Southwest Atlantic Ocean: Brazil.


Size: up to 4 inches (10 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit small caves and beneath overhangs crevices at depths of 3 to over 60 feet (1 - 20 m)


General Husbandry: Prefer a temperature range of 72 - 79ºF (22 - 26ºC). Natural diet consists mainly of zooplankton and benthic crustaceans. Feed meaty/freeze-dried foodstuffs two or three time's daily. Limit to one per aquarium except in very large aquariums as they may fight among themselves. May eat small shrimps. Similar to it's northern relative G. loreto. Can be extremely territorial in guarding its selected areas. Not possible to distinguish males from females, however, the male is 'generally' larger.
