Common Name: Square Shoulder Anthias
Species Name: Pseudanthias pleurotaenia (Bleeker, 1857)
Range: Indo-Australian Archipelago and Western Pacific Ocean
Size: up to 8 inches (20 cm)
Natural Environment: Inhabit reef faces and deep drop-off areas
General Husbandry: Prefer a water temperature of 72 - 80°F (22 - 27°C). Is not one of the better aquarium Anthias (in my opinion), however, often seen in shops! Shy. A deep water species and does best in a dimly lit aquarium. Require exceptional water quality, good water movement and numerous feedings per day. Diet consists mainly of meaty foodstuffs, e.g., mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, and enriched fresh fish and shrimp flesh. Can jump out of the aquarium, so some sort of covers may be necessary. Have used an eggcrate grill over open sections of client aquariums.
