Common Name: Sunset / Diadem / Shortsnout Anthias

Species Name: Pseudanthias parvirostris (Randall & Lubbock, 1981)


Range: Indo-West Pacific Ocean: Mauritius, Maldives, Philippines, Palau, and the Solomon Islands


Size: up to 3 inches (7 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit steep reef faces and slopes/drop-off areas.


General Husbandry: Prefer a water temperature of 72 - 80°F (22 - 27°C). Not normally found in the aquarium trade, shown here for identification purpose should it show up in the trade. If available should be maintained in dimly lit environment. Requires exceptional water quality, good water movement and numerous feedings per day. Diet consists mainly of meaty foodstuffs, e.g., mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, and enriched fresh fish and shrimp flesh. Usually collected in the Maldives, and if available, a good choice as its quite small and adapts to aquarium live quite readily.
