Range: Indo-West Pacific Ocean: Southern Japan to Great Barrier Reef

Size: up to 8 inches (20 cm)

Natural Environment: Inhabit deep reef faces and slopes/drop-off areas

General Husbandry: Prefer a water temperature of 70 - 78°F (21 - 26°C). Require exceptional water quality, good water movement and numerous feedings per day. A fairly deep-water fish, usually below 100 feet, and not too often seen in the trade. Diet consists mainly of meaty foodstuffs, e.g., mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, and enriched fresh fish and shrimp flesh. Juveniles do not have the stripe. Prefers low light conditions and caves to hide in.
