Range: Western Pacific Ocean: Southern Japan and the Chesterfield Islands, and also Central Pacific Ocean: Hawaiian Islands
Size: up to 5 inches (12 cm)
Natural Environment: Inhabits deep sandy and rocky bottom areas
General Husbandry: Prefer a water temperature of 72 - 76°F (22 - 26°C). Rarely seen in the trade, and I have yet to see one in captivity. Diet consists mainly of meaty foodstuffs, e.g., mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, and enriched fresh fish and shrimp flesh. A secretive species and requires dim lighting and many hiding places.
