Species Name: Pomacanthus maculosus (Forsskål, 1775)


Range: Western Indian Ocean: Red Sea, Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman


Size: up to 12 inches (30 cm)


Natural Environment: Inhabit coral reefs, yet often found in silty areas and collected between depths of 10 to over 70 feet (3 - 20 m)


General Husbandry: Has a temperature range of 77 - 82°F (25 - 28°C) and their natural diet consists mainly of crustaceans, sponges, tunicates and some algae. Need a varied diet and numerous feeding per day. A good aquarium fish, yet infrequently seen and commands a high price. Captive-bred specimens are sometimes referred to as "Half Moon" angelfish.
